My
Values

Communication

Effective communication is crucial to marketing department success. I believe nearly all problems can be solved by openly communicating. Breaking down silos between departments, advancing complex ideas, building important products, cultivating team culture … all of these depend on great communication.

Trust

Micromanagement, hyper-fixation on metrics, misattribution of work, and rejection of time off requests are all leadership behaviors that suggest a lack of trust. The number one thing that has helped my teams succeed over a 20-year career in marketing is genuine trust in one another.

Freedom

I value freedom immensely, and I’m grateful for the space and agency I have in my own life. I do my best work when I feel clear and unencumbered. That’s why processes are crucial - because the right processes free up mental space and help to create trust and freedom within a team.

Growth

Any time I can learn and grow is a beautiful opportunity. Whether it’s a new technical skill, a management technique, or even a breathing exercise to stay even and calm in stressful situations, I love expanding. I value growth opportunities at work, and seek out mentorship as well.

MEDIA

Get to know my story and my work.

In this 2022 interview, I walk through my career journey and explain one of my methods for building top-ranked website pages and collections of content in your niche.

Remote worker

I have been a remote worker since 2018, and my family is currently based outside of Denver, Colorado. I am an advocate for remote worker company culture and engagement, wellness and mental health.

Musings on a 2nd novel

MINI BLOG

Hope is not yet lost for my first novel. I’m actively querying at a slow pace of 1-5 agents a week, and thinking about my next story.

I wanted to write from my heart and spirit on the first one, but next time around, I’m going to try to align to the market before outlining the novel. I have stories bursting through me always, and I think I need to be more strategic about the way I try to bring them into the world, because one of my goals is to break into the traditional publishing industry.

That said, I’ve got two ideas brewing now. One of them involves a middle aged woman who can’t shake her internal flight response. She’s always planning wild escapes in her head, and one day, she packs up her 11 year old daughter and does it - she moves to the wilderness of Idaho in search of the peace and connectedness she longs for. Of course, as you might guess, it doesn’t work out. The main character learns disastrously that your heart follows you everywhere.
